Almost Everything: Why Infinite Content Feels Like Nothing at All

The problem with having Almost Everything available... it's similar to that nightmare boss that makes everything a priority... nothing winds up being a priority. Everything has the same weight, the same context.

The Unstreamables Community Story

Almost every work of art, film, music, or book ever created is now accessible on the supercomputer in your pocket. Almost.

The problem with having Almost Everything available... it's similar to that nightmare boss that makes everything a priority... nothing winds up being a priority. Everything has the same weight, the same context.

As Arcade Fire puts it:

Infinite content, infinite content, infinitely content.
- Arcade Fire

With so much available at once, the cultural artifacts that once defined us become just another scroll. The rare and the unique lose their luster in the face of an endless feed.

So we're imbued with a sort of hunger - we know the perfect thing to watch or listen to right now is out there. We endlessly scroll and scroll. We find a morsel, and it satisfies us for a moment or an hour or two, and then we look for our next rush of endorphins. We're content with content instead of art.

We're at a time of confluence - when bots and generative models (popularly known as generative AI) are creating even more of this derivative content. They are also influencing our choices in media, amplifying the divisions in our culture, and emptying the wallets of both audiences and artists.

This micro-community is an antidote to that. In starting this, we hope that we can begin to build something authentic, unique and real. We're inviting you to come along and c0-create the episodes, help discover treasures too good to lose.

We’re inviting you to join us in rediscovering and preserving the ineffable treasures of media history—songs, films, books, and art too good to lose. Share your finds, co-create episodes, and help us unearth the stories behind the unstreamable.

Rummage through the record store crates, flea markets and thrift stores with us. Together we can build a library of the ineffable and arcane. Celebrate the beauty of the obscure, the unique, and forgotten media and the art that refuses to be forgotten.
